Makerspace
The Orion Township Public Library's Makerspace offers space for library patrons to work on creative projects. We offer a variety of tools, equipment, and programs to encourage a hybrid of digital literacy and creativity.
The Makerspace is open daily and closes 30 minutes before the library closes. Equipment availability may vary. For more information, please contact (248) 693-3001.
Hours
Makerspace Use
Makerspace equipment is self service. During regular hours, librarians are unable to personally assist with use. Handbooks, guides, and/or training videos can be found under the equipment descriptions below.
Equipment Reservations
Advanced reservations can be made online for our Cricut Maker 3, Glowforge (currently out of service), Audio / Video conversion equipment, and photo scanners. For all other equipment, please contact Adult Services at (248) 693-3001 for more information.
Audio / Video / Photo Conversion
Canon ImageFORMULA RS40
Digitize paper photographs and documents in varying item sizes. Scans up to 30 items per minute. Automatic feeder to handle batches of items. Scans items at up to 1200 dpi.
ION Audio Tape 2 PC
Quickly transfers music from tapes to MP3 format. This station also includes CD burning software.
Toshiba DVD/VHS Recorder (DVR620)
The Toshiba VHS recorder can be used with the Elgato Video Capture to easily digitize your VHS tapes.
Elgato Video Capture
Digitize video from a VCR, camcorder, and other analogue video sources. Includes an easy to use walk-through guide.
ION USB Turntable/Vinyl Archiver TTUSB10
Transfer music from vinyl records to MP3 format. Plays 33 and 45 RPM records.
Epson Perfection V800 Photo Scanner
Get the precise color and detail you need to digitally archive all your physical images. 6400 dpi resolution, a 4.0 Dmax and an innovative dual-lens scanning system ensure extraordinary results whether scanning slides, negatives, medium- or large-format film. Includes Adobe Photoshop Elements 2024 for editing photos.
Magnasonic FS81 Super 8/8mm Scanner
The Magnasonic FS81 is a super 8/8mm film-to-video scanner that digitizes old film into digital MP4 files. Scan 3”, 5”, and 7” film reels quickly and easily. View as you scan on the built-in 2.3-inch LCD display.

Cutting and Engraving
Cricut Maker 3
Cricut machines cut a hundred different materials – everything from the most popular craft materials like cardstock, vinyl, and iron-on to specialty materials like glittery paper, polished foils, and bonded fabric.
Spellbinder Platinum 8.5"
The Spellbinder Platinum embosses and cuts through a wide range of thick to thin materials, from paper and cotton, to metal and balsa wood. Let the Platinum Die Cutting and Embossing Machine power your creativity with unlimited possibilities. Cuts up to eight layers in a single pass. This is an excellent tool for card makers and paper crafters.
Glowforge
In Repair and Currently Unavailable - Glowforge Basic uses a beam of light the width of a human hair to cut, engrave, and shape designs from a variety of materials like wood, leather, acrylic, and more. Includes a subscription to Glowforge Premium.

*Patrons under the age of 18 wanting to use the Glowforge must be accompanied by an adult that has completed the safety and training session.

Prusa MK3S+ 3-D Printer
Prusa MK3S+ 3-D Printer—Print a wide variety of objects on our Prusa 3-D Printer. We have a wide selection of colors of PLA filament to choose from. (Black, white, gray, red, yellow, blue, green, purple, metallic orange, silver, gold, bronze, glow in the dark, and metallic rainbow.)
The cost to print is $1 plus $0.05/gram of material. Completed items can be picked up at the front desk. Payment is due upon the pickup of your item.

Tecre Button Maker
Our button maker includes all the supplies needed to create quality pin-back buttons from print images in 1.25 in. and 2.25 in. sizes. Supplies can be purchased at the Circulation Desk (4 buttons for $1)
Brother PE800 Embroidery Machine
Bring your embroidery to the next level! Create dazzling embroidery designs with a 5” x 7” embroidery field and see them on screen with the large color touch display screen. This lightweight printer delivers beautiful borderless, smudge, scratch, water and fade resistant 4" x 6" photos. Photo paper (4x6) may be purchased from the front desk.
Saturn 3i 125 Thermal Laminator
