Neighborly Notes: an Intergenerational Pen Pal Program

With social distancing still in effect, connecting students with senior neighbors through a Pen Pal program can help! Whether you are a senior citizen wanting to form a connection and along the way help a student practice their writing skills, or you are a student who would like to brighten the day of a homebound neighbor, this program is for you! Our youngest pen pals can even send drawings and parents can help with the writing. Students must be willing to send at least 2 letters, and hopefully more, to their pen pal. Optional letter writing kits including paper, postage, and writing prompts can be picked up at the library by registered pen pals starting June 21.

Students can write letters and earn volunteer hours for their schools; contact our volunteer coordinator for more information at lmorris@orionlibrary.org or (248) 287-8013.

Register below by June 21 to be assigned a pen pal. You can also register by phone by contacting the Main Library at (248) 693-3001 or the Orion Center Library at (248) 693-6840.

Student registration for this program is now full. Adult registrations are still being accepted.
